Mooloolah
Two options have been developed for Mooloolah.Option 1 – the preferred concept
- road underpass constructed to the north of the existing level crossing, under the new rail bridge, to ensure 5.5m clearance for heavy road vehicles
- Mooloolah Connection Road extended to the north, parallel to the rail line (on the eastern side), to connect to Neill Road underpass
- underpass is above 100 year flood level and allows for a road speed of 50 km/hr
- provides pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian access (bridle path) under the new rail bridge
- uses existing rail corridor land for station and parking
- has minimal new property impacts.
Opportunities
- use redundant rail land along Jones Street for alternative purposes
- create open space under the new rail bridge for community purposes and visual amenity
- use pedestrian overbridges to connect east and west sides of town.

Option 2 – the alternative concept
- road overpass constructed at about 8m over the rail line to the south of the existing open level crossing
- intersects Mooloolah Connection Road on east with new roundabout, and Brays Road on west with an intersection at Jones Street
- uses existing rail corridor land for station and parking
- allows for an overpass speed of 50 km/hr
- overpass allows for pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian access (bridle path)
- creates some access impacts to commercial and residential properties along Jones Street and has multiple new property impacts
- needs sensitive design to mitigate noise, visual and lighting impacts.
Opportunities
- construct early to minimise traffic impacts during construction
- use pedestrian overbridges to connect east and west sides of town.
