Mooloolah

Two options have been developed for Mooloolah.

Option 1 – the preferred concept

  • road underpass constructed to the north of the existing level crossing, under the new rail bridge, to ensure 5.5m clearance for heavy road vehicles
  • Mooloolah Connection Road extended to the north, parallel to the rail line (on the eastern side), to connect to Neill Road underpass
  • underpass is above 100 year flood level and allows for a road speed of 50 km/hr
  • provides pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian access (bridle path) under the new rail bridge
  • uses existing rail corridor land for station and parking
  • has minimal new property impacts.

Opportunities

  • use redundant rail land along Jones Street for alternative purposes
  • create open space under the new rail bridge for community purposes and visual amenity
  • use pedestrian overbridges to connect east and west sides of town.

Option 2 – the alternative concept

  • road overpass constructed at about 8m over the rail line to the south of the existing open level crossing
  • intersects Mooloolah Connection Road on east with new roundabout, and Brays Road on west with an intersection at Jones Street
  • uses existing rail corridor land for station and parking
  • allows for an overpass speed of 50 km/hr
  • overpass allows for pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian access (bridle path)
  • creates some access impacts to commercial and residential properties along Jones Street and has multiple new property impacts
  • needs sensitive design to mitigate noise, visual and lighting impacts.

Opportunities

  • construct early to minimise traffic impacts during construction
  • use pedestrian overbridges to connect east and west sides of town.
